Inception - Film of the Year

***** This is Christopher Nolan's masterpiece. Inception is not only the film of the year but truly the most original piece of work in the sci-fi/thriller genre since The Matrix.

The key to Inception's success is the film's sheer original concept of 'dream-extraction' and its ability to balance this with the drive of the plot almost seamlessly. That is the magic of Inception. One never gets to embroiled in the specific dynamics of Inception (although important) as you are expertly enthralled by the story.

A work of a master craftsmen, Christopher Nolan has delivered a film that is brilliant in both concept and design. Inception is that rarity, an original idea that is beguiling as it is thrilling to watch... What dreams are made of.

Jin and Sun

Last night '... In Translation' (8/10) was a look into the quieter members of the 'Lost' community - Jin and Sun. This episode was quiet powerful and very good in re-creating an interest in the pair, for their appeal was waining.

We also got to see the wonders of television when Shannon and Sayid get close - an accelerated plot line here! There were one.... two... THREE! Big revelations - Hurley was on the TV - yes I know he is in 'Lost' but it was on the TV in the programme 'Lost' - what is going on there?

Oh and young Walt dismembered his father's raft! Jin finds out that Sun can speak English, which places their relationship in tatters, as you can imagine!

Finally, in the raft that Michael was making he could only take four people with him and he took Sawyer!!!

Sawyer and the Boar!

Last nights episode 'The Outlaws' (7/10) was an interesting look into the 0h-so troubled life of Sawyer. I Like Sawyer, I like his snide remarks and his self-assertive persona. Anyway, enough of my rambling, in this episode we learn of his tragic childhood and his determination for revenge.

Sawyer begins to have a love/hate relationship with a boar - if you see the episode you will see what I mean! Sawyer encounters Jack's father in a bar (that was a great moment) and I think that encounter may bring down the barrier between Jack and Sawyer, and we may, and I must stress, MAY, see the blossoming of a friendship. (this is off the record by the way and could be removed depending on future developments)

Alexander

*** - I watched this last night with my brother, and was sceptical from the start due to it being lambasted in the press, including my favourite reviewer - Roger Ebert of the Chicago, Sun-Times.

However, I am pleased to report that I found 'Alexander' to be a good historical picture that is very watchable. Colin Farrell is great in the lead role and the acting is high calibre. The cinematography, set designs and musical score have been created with evident passion but at times the structure and fluency of 'Alexander' suffers.

Oliver Stone should be proud of what he has achieved with 'Alexander' and I strongly recommend it to those who have been put off by the critics.

The Da Vinci Code

'The Da Vinci Code' by Dan Brown is a fast flowing plot, which twists and turns and makes a riveting read. I was captivated by Dan Brown's style of writing and intrigued by the book. Highly Recommended

Northern Lights

Published in 1995 - 'Northern Lights' is the first part of the brilliant 'Dark Materials' trilogy by Philip Pullman. Highly Recommended.

Oh Why Charlie!!!

If you were lucky enough to see last nights episode 'Homecoming' on Channel 4 you were in for a treat! (7.5 out of 10) This is the best episode of 'Lost' since - 'All the Best Cowboys Have Daddy Issues' which was back in episode 11. Claire has returned from her mysterious kidnap with 'scary' Ethan but, guess what, she cannot remember anything! Not a single bit of information!

Then with gasps of anticipation the Lost comrades capture Ethan (cries of hallelujah ring-out on my sofa) at last we are going to discover who the hell is Ethan and possibly a lot more.... Then he is shot dead by ex-Drive Shaft member Charlie Pace - Nooooooooooo!

Lost

'Lost' is the best thing since '24' hit our screens. If you haven't seen it I would advise trying to watch it from the beginning or you may struggle. This is a must see series.

On TV: Wednesday 10:00p.m on Channel 4.
